Does giving blood hurt?
Giving blood is very simple and painless. Most donors may feel a little discomfort only at the start point and are comfortable during the rest of the donation.
Is it safe to donate blood?
Yes. There is no chance of acquiring AIDS or any other infectious diseases by donating blood. Our collection bags are sterile, pre-packaged, used only once and after usage destroyed. Donors may get dizzy if they have an empty stomach. We advised you to eat light food before coming for donation.
Do I have enough blood in my body to donate?
Yes. The body contains 10 to 12 pints of blood (about 5 to 5 ½ liters). Your donation is just a small fraction of the blood in your body which is replaced in short time. Our eligibility requirements ensure that this replacement will occur easily.
How much blood is taken?
For a whole blood donation, approximately one pint (450 ml) is collected). For a platelet donation by Apheresis method, the amount collected depends on your height, weight and platelet count.
How much time does it take for my body to replace the blood that I donated?
Not long at all. The volume of fluids will adjust within a few hours of your donation. The red blood cells will be replaced within a few weeks.
How often may I donate blood or platelets?
You may donate whole blood once every 3 months (4 times /year), while you can donate platelets every 4 weeks. Red blood cells (the oxygen-carrying cells) will take a few weeks to reach normal levels.
